About temazepam

What is temazepam?
Temazepam is a prescription medication that was U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved to treat sleep maintenance insomnia in 1981. Sleep maintenance insomnia happens when you wake up sometime in the night and have difficulty falling back asleep.

Temazepam can also be prescribed to treat early-onset or initial insomnia, which happens when you have trouble falling asleep when you first go to bed. The medication is used on a short-term basis of 7 to 10 days to treat and manage insomnia symptoms for difficulty falling or staying asleep.

Temazepam belongs to a medication class called benzodiazepines. Benzodiazepines are depressant medications that help reduce seizures, relieve muscle spasms and anxiety, and produce hypnosis and sedation. Temazepam, in particular, produces sedation to relieve insomnia symptoms.

Benzodiazepines impact chemicals in the brain that can be unbalanced in people with insomnia symptoms. The most common benzodiazepines include Ativan (lorazepam), Halcion (triazolam), Klonopin (clonazepam), Xanax (alprazolam), and Valium (diazepam).

How to get a temazepam online prescription?

Want to know how to get a temazepam prescription online? Here are the steps to get a temazepam prescription online:

  • Book a telehealth appointment. First, schedule an online appointment with a board-certified healthcare provider to get a temazepam prescription. Depending on the laws in your state, you might need to meet with a licensed healthcare provider in person first. Licensed healthcare providers who can prescribe temazepam include medical doctors (MDs), including primary care physicians. Physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) can sometimes prescribe temazepam, but it depends on the laws where you live.
  • Discuss your treatment plan. Your licensed healthcare provider can figure out if temazepam is right for you, based on your sleep condition. You can find a board-certified and licensed healthcare provider on Klarity Health in as little as 24 hours. You and your board-certified healthcare provider can discuss a personalized medical treatment plan for you and your sleep condition, including medication, such as temazepam.
  • Pick up temazepam at the pharmacy. Once you get a temazepam prescription online, your licensed healthcare provider can send the prescription to any local or online pharmacy. You can also either send or take the prescription to a pharmacy on your own.

Temazepam dosages and side effects

Temazepam dosages and how to use it

Temazepam dosages and how to use it

Temazepam comes in an oral capsule formulation. The medication comes in 4 different dosages, including:
• 7.5 milligrams
• 15 milligrams
• 22.5 milligrams
• 30 milligrams

Temazepam is taken orally 1 time per day before you go to bed. The typical adult dose is 15 milligrams, but doses can range from 7.5 to 30 milligrams. It’s prescribed for the short-term treatment of insomnia, so it’s typically only taken for about 7 to 10 days. Debilitated or elderly patients should start at 7.5 milligrams of temazepam until the healthcare provider has figured out their response to the medication.

Keep in mind that a 7.5-milligram dosage is typically enough to improve sleep latency in transient insomnia. Transient insomnia refers to insomnia that only lasts for a few nights. It’s different from chronic insomnia, which happens most nights and lasts over a month. Also known as sleep onset latency, sleep latency refers to the amount of time it takes you to fall asleep after you turn the lights off or start trying to fall asleep. A healthy person without insomnia symptoms takes about 10 to 20 minutes to fall asleep on average.

Temazepam is taken when it’s needed. Simply skip any missed dose if you are on a specific dosing schedule prescribed by your healthcare provider. Only take temazepam when you have enough time for multiple hours of sleep. Never take 2 doses of temazepam at the same time, since this can lead to an overdose.

If you overdose on temazepam, make sure to seek out emergency medical help immediately. You can also contact the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 for medical assistance for an overdose. A temazepam overdose can potentially be fatal, particularly if you take temazepam with opioid medication, alcohol, or any other medications that slow your breathing or cause drowsiness. Overdose symptoms can include coma, confusion, or extreme drowsiness.
