About truvada

What is truvada?
Truvada is a prescription medicine that contains two antivirals, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate.

Truvada is FDA-approved for two uses:
• As HIV PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) to reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents who weigh at least 77 pounds (35 kg).
• In combination with other antivirals to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and children who weigh at least 37 pounds (17 kg).

Truvada is a highly effective tool in the fight against HIV, but it is not a cure. When used for PrEP, it must be taken daily to maintain consistent blood levels and maximum protection against HIV. For treatment of HIV-1 infection, it must be used with other HIV medicines.

Truvada is available as oral tablets. If you are at risk for HIV or have an HIV-1 infection, talk to a provider on our platform to find out if Truvada is appropriate for you.

How to get a truvada prescription online?

You can get a truvada prescription online if medically appropriate after a thorough evaluation by a telehealth provider. Here’s how it works:

  • Step 1: Complete a comprehensive health intake form, providing information about your medical history, HIV status, and risk factors.
  • Step 2: Choose a convenient time to have a virtual consultation with a licensed healthcare provider.
  • Step 3: During your appointment, your provider can assess your eligibility for Truvada based on your HIV status, kidney function, and other relevant factors. They can also discuss the potential benefits, risks, and proper use of the medication.
  • Step 4: If deemed appropriate, your provider can issue a prescription for Truvada, which can be sent electronically to your preferred pharmacy. You can then pick up your medication or have it delivered, depending on the pharmacy’s services.

Truvada is a prescription-only medication and cannot be obtained over the counter in the United States. The Klarity Health platform connects you with licensed providers who adhere to clinical guidelines and best practices to ensure the safe and appropriate use of Truvada. If Truvada is not suitable for you, your provider can discuss alternative HIV prevention or treatment options.

How does truvada compare to other medications?

Truvada is a widely used medication for HIV prevention and treatment, but several other antiretroviral options may be recommended depending on a patient’s health status, lifestyle, and treatment goals. Here’s how common alternatives to Truvada compare based on their class, duration, common uses, and oral availability:
