Theophylline prescription online

Theophylline is a bronchodilator used to treat symptoms and reversible airflow obstruction associated with chronic asthma, chronic bronchitis, and chronic emphysema. It works by relaxing the muscles in the lungs and chest, making it easier to breathe.

It’s sometimes used when other asthma or COPD medications haven’t worked well enough on their own. Available in multiple forms, including tablets, capsules, oral solutions, elixirs, and extended-release options.  Theophylline is one of the longer-established medications for respiratory conditions.

About theophylline

What is theophylline?
Theophylline is a dimethylxanthine drug that helps open the bronchial airways and pulmonary blood vessels. Additionally, theophylline reduces lung inflammation by reducing the airway's response to inflammatory chemical signals. It’s approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat symptoms and reversible airflow obstruction of asthma and COPD in both adults and children. Relaxing airway muscles and improving airflow can potentially reduce wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath.

This medication is available in many brand names, including Theo-24 and  Elixophyllin within the United States, but most prescriptions are filled using generic theophylline. It comes in extended-release tablets and capsules, as well as immediate-release forms and liquid solutions. Dosages are highly individualized and usually based on age, weight, and monitored blood levels of the drug.

How to get a theophylline prescription online?

  1. Schedule an appointment
Book a virtual visit with a licensed healthcare provider through Klarity Health.
  2. Complete your consultation
Discuss your breathing symptoms, medical history, and current medications with the provider.
  3. Get evaluated for treatment
If theophylline is considered medically appropriate, the provider will issue a prescription.
  4. Receive your medication
Your prescription can be sent to your preferred pharmacy for pickup or delivery.

How does theophylline compare to other medications?

Theophylline is not a first-line treatment for asthma or COPD, but it may be used when inhalers, such as albuterol or corticosteroids, aren’t enough to control symptoms and manage airflow obstruction. Here’s how it compares:

MedicationBrand NameTypical UseDosageCommon Side EffectsType
TheophyllineTheo-24, etc.Asthma, COPD300–600 mg/dayNausea, insomniaMethylxanthine bronchodilator
AlbuterolProAir, VentolinAsthma attacks (bronchodilator)As needed (inhaler)Tremor, nervousnessShort-acting beta agonist
FluticasoneFloventAsthma maintenance (targets inflammation)100–500 mcg/dayHoarseness, sore throatInhaled corticosteroid
TiotropiumSpirivaCOPD maintenance, Asthma (Respimat)1 capsule inhaled once/ day (COPD)Dry mouth, constipationLong-acting muscarinic antagonist
MontelukastSingulairAsthma, allergic rhinitis10 mg dailyHeadache, sleep changesLeukotriene receptor antagonist

Theophylline’s main advantage is its extended-release options, offering a longer duration of action and oral dosing. However,  this medication requires close monitoring due to potential toxicities. It’s a good option for people who have failed or can’t tolerate inhaled therapies well
