About Stelara

About Stelara

What is Stelara?
Stelara is a prescription biologic that treats autoimmune conditions such as moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis. It’s a monoclonal antibody that blocks interleukin‑12 and interleukin‑23—proteins that fuel inflammation.

Stelara is given as an initial intravenous (IV) infusion for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, followed by subcutaneous (SC) injections for ongoing maintenance. All other conditions are treated with SC injections only. Stelara is available under its brand name and also serves as the reference biologic for FDA-approved biosimilars like Pyzchiva, Yesintek, Otulfi, Selarsdi, Steqeyma, and Starjemza.

It was first approved for psoriasis in 2009, with expanded approvals for Crohn’s in 2016 and ulcerative colitis later. Depending on the condition, dosing ranges from a one-time IV dose to SC injections every 8 to 12 weeks—making Stelara a less frequent treatment option compared to many other biologics.

How to get a Stelara prescription online?

Getting a Stelara prescription online is straightforward:

  • Virtual consultation: Choose a telehealth platform like Klarity Health and book a telehealth visit.
  • Medical evaluation: The provider reviews your condition, labs, and treatment history.
  • Prescription & plan: If appropriate, they’ll coordinate initial infusion and ongoing injection schedule.
  • Pharmacy handling: Prescription and treatment plan are sent to your preferred infusion center or specialty pharmacy.

How does Stelara compare to other medications?

When evaluating biologic options for autoimmune conditions, it’s important to compare mechanism, dosing frequency, side effect risk, and cost:

MedicationConditions TreatedSide Effect RiskDosing Frequency
StelaraPsoriasis, PsA, Crohn’s, UCLow–Moderate (infections)IV once, then SC every 8–12 weeks
Cosentyx (secukinumab)Psoriasis, PsAModerateEvery 4 weeks (more frequent)
Skyrizi (risankizumab)Psoriasis, PsA, UC, Crohn’sLow–ModerateEvery 12 weeks
Humira (adalimumab)Many (RA, Crohn’s, UC, psoriasis, more)Moderate–High (infection risk)Every 2 weeks
  • Stelara and Skyrizi target IL‑23 and offer longer dosing intervals
  • Stelara may pose a lower infection risk than anti-TNF options like Humira or infliximab
