About propranolol

What is propranolol?
Propranolol is a beta-adrenergic blocker used to reduce blood pressure, heart rate, and the workload on the heart. It helps treat cardiovascular conditions like hypertension and arrhythmias, and also reduces the frequency and severity of migraine headaches. Off-label, it’s often used to manage physical symptoms of anxiety, especially in performance or social situations. Available in immediate—and extended-release tablets, oral solutions, and injectable forms, propranolol has been widely prescribed for decades.

How to get a propranolol prescription online?

How to get a propranolol prescription online
Through Klarity, you can meet with a board-certified provider to discuss your symptoms and medical history. If propranolol is appropriate, your provider can send a prescription to your preferred pharmacy, usually within 24 hours.

Steps to get started:

  • Visit Klarity Health
  • Schedule an appointment with a licensed provider
  • Discuss your symptoms during a telehealth visit
  • If approved, get your prescription sent to your pharmacy

How does propranolol compare to other medications?

Propranolol can sometimes be preferred because it’s a non-selective beta blocker, making it effective not just for blood pressure but also for anxiety, especially performance anxiety, and migraines. But, its non-selective action means it can affect the lungs, so it might not be the best choice for people with asthma or certain breathing issues.

Compared to metoprolol and atenolol, which are more cardioselective and better tolerated by asthma patients, propranolol may cause more side effects related to lung function. Clonidine, on the other hand, can treat anxiety and ADHD, but tends to be more sedating, which can be a negative side effect for some individuals.

MetoprololBeta blockerBlood pressure, heart conditionsCardioselective; fewer side effects for asthma patients
