Isosorbide online prescription

Isosorbide mononitrate is a prescription medication used to prevent angina (chest pain) associated with coronary artery disease. As a long-acting nitrate, it  produces a vasodilator effect on peripheral veins and arteries decreasing  oxygen demand on the heart. Isosorbide mononitrate also  increases blood flow to help prevent episodes of chest discomfort.

Through Klarity, eligible U.S. adults can consult with licensed providers who assess medical history, existing conditions, and concurrent medications to determine if isosorbide mononitrate is appropriate.

Providers on Klarity Health are independent practitioners with clinical autonomy; a diagnosis, treatment, or prescription is not guaranteed.

About isosorbide

About isosorbide

What is isosorbide?
Isosorbide mononitrate is a chemical entity in the nitrate class, available as extended-release tablets (30 mg, 60 mg, or 120 mg) or immediate-release tablets at 10 mg and 20 mg. It’s FDA-approved for the prevention of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease. It cannot treat a sudden chest pain attack, as its mechanism requires steady plasma levels.

The medication works by converting to nitric oxide, which relaxes both veins (reducing preload) and arteries (reducing afterload), while dilating coronary arteries to increase oxygen delivery to cardiac tissue. This dual mechanism reduces the workload on the heart and helps prevent future angina attacks.

Extended-release tablets release the drug over many hours, maintaining consistent blood levels. Brand names include Imdur, Ismo, Monoket, among others. A nitrate-free intervalis essential to prevent tolerance, which impairs effectiveness over time. The long-acting form is preferred for consistent prevention protocols.

How to get an isosorbide prescription online?

Getting your prescription online involves these steps:

  1. Register with Klarity and submit your medical history, including heart disease, previous angina symptoms, and current medications if needed.
  2. Schedule a virtual consultation with a qualified provider.
  3. Complete the visit, during which the provider evaluates your cardiovascular health, asks about angina frequency, and assesses for contraindications.
  4. Receive the prescription for extended-release isosorbide mononitrate if appropriate, tailored to your clinical needs.
  5. Fill the prescription at your pharmacy and begin therapy.
  6. Follow up with your provider, usually within 2–4 weeks, to monitor blood pressure, side effects like headaches or dizziness, and adherence. Adjustments may be made as necessary.

A valid prescription requires medical necessity, and telehealth appointments do not guarantee medication dispensation. Providers may recommend additional treatments or lifestyle modifications simultaneously for comprehensive care.

How does isosorbide compare to other medications?

Compared with other antianginal medications:

MedicationClassDosingNotable Features
Isosorbide MononitrateLong-acting nitrate30–120 mg ER once dailyprevents angina, tolerance issues
NitroglycerinShort-acting nitrateSublingual, repeat doses up to three times at 5 minute intervalsRapidly relieves acute chest pain
Beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol)Beta-blocker1–2x/day oralReduces heart rate and oxygen demand, first-line for stable angina
Calcium Channel BlockersCC blockerDaily oralControls blood pressure and chest pain
AmlodipineCCBOnce dailyAdds vasodilation without increasing preload

Nitrates like isosorbide mononitrate are often used in combination with beta-blockers or CCBs. Compared to short-acting nitrates, long-acting forms are for prevention—not for acute relief. Tolerance and hypotension risk require careful dosing and monitoring.
