About glyxambi

About glyxambi

What is glyxambi?
Glyxambi is a prescription medication used to control blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, alongside diet and exercise. It combines empagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor, with linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor. Empagliflozin helps the kidneys remove glucose from the bloodstream, while linagliptin increases insulin production and reduces glucose production in the liver. Together, they work through different mechanisms to help lower blood sugar levels.

Glyxambi is not suitable for individuals with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, or those with a history of pancreatitis. It should also be avoided by individuals with moderate to severe kidney impairment (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m²).

The medication is available in two strengths: 10 mg empagliflozin/5 mg linagliptin and 25 mg empagliflozin/5 mg linagliptin.

How to get a glyxambi prescription online?

Obtaining a Glyxambi prescription online involves a few steps:

  • Schedule a virtual visit with a licensed medical provider through a telehealth platform.
  • During the visit, the provider will assess your symptoms, review your health history, and determine if Glyxambi is appropriate for you.
  • If prescribed, your Glyxambi prescription will be sent to your preferred pharmacy for pickup or home delivery.

How does glyxambi compare to other medications?

When comparing treatment options for type 2 diabetes, it’s crucial to consider the efficacy, side effect profiles, and administration methods. Below is a comparison of Glyxambi with other commonly used medications for diabetes:

MedicationUse CaseSide Effect RiskCost (Generic)Administration
GlyxambiType 2 DiabetesModerate (UTIs, hypotension)HighOral, once daily
MetforminType 2 DiabetesLow (GI upset, lactic acidosis)LowOral, once or twice daily
Januvia (sitagliptin)Type 2 DiabetesLow (nasopharyngitis, headache)ModerateOral, once daily
Jardiance (empagliflozin)Type 2 DiabetesModerate (UTIs, hypotension)HighOral, once daily

Glyxambi is particularly beneficial for patients with type 2 diabetes who also have cardiovascular risk factors. Metformin is typically the first-line treatment due to its low cost and effectiveness. Januvia and Jardiance are alternatives that may be considered based on individual needs and tolerability.
