Entacapone online prescription

Entacapone is a prescription medication used as an adjunct to levodopa-carbidopa therapy in adults with Parkinson’s disease who experience “end-of-dose" motor fluctuations—when the effects of levodopa wear off before the next dose.

Through Klarity Health, U.S. patients can meet with licensed providers who assess whether entacapone is clinically appropriate. Providers will review your Parkinson’s history, current medications, prior dopamine response, and whether you experience wearing-off symptoms.

Providers on Klarity Health are independent practitioners with clinical autonomy; a diagnosis, treatment, or prescription is not guaranteed.

About entacapone

About entacapone

What is entacapone?
Entacapone is a selective, reversible inhibitor of catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), an enzyme that is involved in the  breakdown of  levodopa. By blocking COMT, entacapone prevents peripheral metabolism of levodopa into 3-OMD, thereby increasing and prolonging the availability of levodopa in the brain. This helps reduce "off" periods—when irregular motor symptoms (e.g., tremor) return before the next dose.

Available as a 200 mg tablet, entacapone is approved only for use with levodopa/carbidopa in Parkinson’s disease patients experiencing motor fluctuations.Clinical studies show that entacapone increases levodopa availability by inhibiting its breakdown, leading to sustained blood levels of levodopa.

Its onset is rapid (peak blood levels in ~1 hour) after oral administration; Entacapone acts peripherally and does not cross the blood-brain-barrier avoiding central nervous system toxicity.

How to get an entacapone prescription online?

Using entacapone via klarity involves several steps:

  1. Registration: Provide medical and Parkinson’s history
  2. Schedule a Telemedicine Visit: Meet with a neurologist or qualified provider
  3. Medical Assessment: Review current motor control, levodopa dosing, and symptoms
  4. Prescription: If indicated, a 200 mg tablet per levodopa dose (up to 8/day) is sent to your pharmacy
  5. Medication Pickup: Typically available same day or next day
  6. Follow-up: Ongoing check-ins every 4‑6 weeks, with lab tests and dosage adjustments as needed

Entacapone is intended for chronic use; consistency is important. Each bottle contains instructions on dosing—enhancing continuity across care teams. Telehealth makes management easy and ensures ongoing support.

How does entacapone compare to other medications?

Entacapone is a COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase) inhibitor, used exclusively in combination with levodopa/carbidopa to enhance and extend the effect of levodopa in patients with Parkinson’s disease. It is most often compared with tolcapone, another COMT inhibitor, and other adjunctive Parkinson’s medications such as MAO-B inhibitors (e.g., selegiline, rasagiline) and dopamine agonists.

Compared to tolcapone, entacapone can be preferred in some cases due to its more favorable side effect profile. While tolcapone can inhibit COMT both centrally and peripherally, it carries a  boxed warning for liver toxicity and requires frequent liver monitoring. Entacapone works  peripherally and does not carry the same level of hepatic risks.Compared to MAO-B inhibitors, entacapone is more effective at increasing the bioavailability and duration of levodopa, but MAO-B inhibitors may offer additional neuroprotective benefits although this is under investigation. Entacapone is also more targeted—used only in patients who already take levodopa and experience “wearing-off” symptoms.

DrugClassPrimary UseProsCons
EntacaponeCOMT inhibitorExtends levodopa effectFavorable side effect profile compared to tolcapone fewer CNS effectsNeeds to be taken with each dose of levodopa/carbidopa

RasagilineMAO-B inhibitorAdjunct or monotherapyOnce-daily dosing, potentially neuroprotectiveDrug interactions, serotonin risk

In summary, entacapone has generally mild side effects, , evidence-based option for Parkinson’s patients who need help managing motor fluctuations.
