About clomiphene

What is clomiphene?
Clomiphene is a non-steroidal fertility treatment. It’s available as a generic medication. And, it’s also on the market under the brand name Clomid.

Clomiphene belongs to a class of medications called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). It’s FDA-approved for the treatment of infertility issues for people who don’t ovulate (anovulation) or have irregular ovulatory cycles. Clomiphene is also approved to help treat infertility issues caused by low testosterone in people assigned male at birth.

Off-label uses of clomiphene include treating secondary hypogonadism and primary short-lasting unilateral neuralgiform headache attacks (SUNCT).

How to get a clomiphene prescription online?

The first step in getting a clomiphene prescription online is to talk to a qualified provider who can address your concerns and determine if clomiphene is the right fertility treatment for you. Types of providers who can prescribe clomiphene or other fertility treatments include nurse practitioners (NPs), physician assistants/associates (PAs), and medical doctors (MDs).

Get started by finding a board-certified provider on Klarity Health. If your provider determines that clomiphene or another fertility treatment is medically appropriate, they will write a prescription, which can be filled online through a licensed pharmacy or a local pharmacy.

Clomiphene dosages and how to use it

Clomiphene is available as a 50-milligram tablet.

For adults taking clomiphene to induce ovulation, your provider will instruct you to take the 50-milligram dosage once daily for 5 days. If ovulation doesn’t occur during the first cycle, your provider may increase the dose to 100 milligrams (50 milligrams twice per day) during your next cycle.

Adults taking clomiphene for sperm induction may be instructed to take 25 mg (half a tablet) for 25 days or 25 milligrams every other day.

Your provider may not prescribe clomiphene for certain conditions. The following are contraindicated:
• Hypersensitivity to clomiphene or any ingredients of the medication
• Breastfeeding
• History of liver impairment
• Liver disease
• Abnormal uterine bleeding
• Uncontrolled adrenal dysfunction
• Non-polycystic ovarian syndrome-related cysts
• Uncontrolled thyroid disease
• Pituitary tumor
• Organic intracranial lesions
• Risk of hypertriglyceridemia
• Endometrial cancer

Your provider will not prescribe clomiphene if you are already pregnant.

Taking your medication at the same time every day is important. Your provider will likely recommend taking it with food or at bedtime to help reduce nausea.

If you miss a dose of clomiphene, take it as soon as possible. But if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose.

Clomiphene should be stored at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.
