About AndroGel

What is AndroGel?
AndroGel is a Schedule III controlled substance, as it contains testosterone—an androgen hormone regulated under the Controlled Substances Act due to its potential for misuse and dependency.

AndroGel is a once-daily topical testosterone gel applied to the shoulders, upper arms, or abdomen. It is available in two strengths:
• AndroGel 1%: Daily dose is 50–100 mg/day, each packet contains 25mg
• AndroGel 1.62%: Daily dose is 20.25mg-81 mg/day, each pump or packet contains 20.25mg

Testosterone is a naturally occurring hormone important for sexual function, energy, muscle mass, bone density, and mood. AndroGel is prescribed to restore testosterone levels in adult men with confirmed testosterone deficiency caused by:
• Primary hypogonadism (e.g., Klinefelter syndrome, testicular failure)
• Secondary hypogonadism due to pituitary or hypothalamic dysfunction

AndroGel is not approved for use in women, children, or men with age-related testosterone decline. It is typically applied in the morning and allowed to dry before dressing. Both brand-name and generic versions are available.

How to get an AndroGel prescription online?

Here’s how it works on Klarity Health:

  1. Book a virtual visit with a licensed provider
  2. Complete a health assessment and discuss lab results
  3. Receive a prescription if testosterone deficiency is confirmed and AndroGel is appropriate
  4. Fill your prescription at your preferred pharmacy for pickup or delivery

Note: A prescription may not be issued if the provider determines that medication is not medically appropriate for your condition.

How does AndroGel compare to other medications?

When comparing testosterone delivery options, consider administration, flexibility, and monitoring needs:

MedicationRouteDose FlexibilityMonitoring NeedsNotes
AndroGelTopical gelDaily titration, 2 strengthsFrequent labs (testosterone, PSA, BP)Easy application, risk of transfer
Testim / VogelxoTopical gelSimilar flexibilitySimilar to AndroGelGeneric equivalents
AndrodermTransdermal patchPatch strength optionsWeekly patches, skin irritation riskPatch-site irritation common
AxironTopical solutionPump delivery underarmSimilar labs; may mix with deodorantPriming required
Injectable testosterone (e.g., enanthate)IM injectionBiweekly or monthly dosingTestosterone swings, less frequent labsCold injections, variable levels

AndroGel provides consistent testosterone levels with daily application. Alternatives like patches, other gels, or injections may suit individuals based on tolerance, preference, or lifestyle.
