I am the mother of a teenage girl who sees Michael. She was apprehensive about therapy but immediately on the first virtual zoom call, she connected with him and was comfortable. He is down to earth and funny, which makes it so much easier for teens to open up because they establish a very laid back and non formal atmosphere. She trusts him and i have found him to be very thorough, not just listening to my daughter vent, but actually trying to understand and dig deeper in order To HELP her. You don't always get that. As a parent, it is refreshing to have him do more than just build a rapport and be her "friend". Lastly, I was considering switching to a female therapist so my daughter could feel comfortable talking about her menstrual cycle and problems with hormones, but he made her feel safe enough to discuss it AND actually knew enough about typical vs nontypical female symptoms to give knowledgeable and professional advice. Too many social workers and doctors don't know enough about hormones and how they affect people. I am thrilled so far with how he has created a safe space for my daughter where she feels heard and attended to. And the fact that it is virtual makes it that much easier for teens to connect and get the support they need while navigating through the hard stuff!
