What is the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge?

CMS launched the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge so eligible Part D and MA-PD members can access certain obesity GLP-1s beginning July 1, 2026, at $50 per month through December 31, 2027, according to the CMS press release and the Medicare fact sheet. Covered products listed by Medicare.gov include Foundayo (tablet), Wegovy (injection or tablet), and Zepbound (KwikPen only).

Does Humana typically cover weight loss care in California?

Sometimes, in pieces. Intensive behavioral therapy for obesity, nutrition counseling, and bariatric surgery follow Original Medicare and your MA medical benefit, not a single “weight loss” checkbox. Drug coverage is the harder part. Federal law still treats many weight-loss-only drugs as a Part D excluded category unless a demonstration (the Bridge) or a labeled non-obesity indication applies. That is why you verify the HPS list and the Bridge separately.

California commercial parity does not force an MA plan to copy an Anthem or Aetna GLP-1 policy. If you still hold a rare Humana commercial remnant, treat that as a different contract and call the number on the card.

How CMS 42 CFR Part 422 fits

42 CFR Part 422 is the MA program rule set. Network, telehealth flags, and medical-benefit PA live there and in your 2026 Evidence of Coverage. You do not assume SB 855 “must cover obesity drugs like medical” language overrides CMS.

Medications, HPS, and scheduling

Wegovy, Zepbound, and Foundayo may be reachable through the Bridge when you meet CMS criteria.
