Humana in California is typically a Medicare Advantage (MA) product, not a large commercial PPO book. Whether depression treatment may be covered depends on your Evidence of Coverage, network, and Humana Pharmacy Solutions (HPS) formulary, plus federal MA rules in 42 CFR Part 422. California SB 855 and Insurance Code § 10123.85 apply to many commercial plans. They do not rewrite MA contracts.
This guide is for people searching “does Humana cover depression treatment in California.” Coverage varies by plan. Verify benefits before you book. Klarity is not Humana, Medi-Cal, or Medicare.

Often, yes, when the service is a covered Medicare mental health benefit, the provider is in network or the plan pays out of network under your PPO/HMO rules, and any PA is approved. Humana publishes member education on Medicare mental health, including outpatient visits and related services, on its Medicare mental health page. Original Medicare and MA plans generally cover depression screening and many outpatient therapy and psychiatry visits. Copays, coinsurance, and referral rules still sit in your 2026 Evidence of Coverage.
California commercial parity (SB 855 / HSC § 1374.72) does not force an MA plan to copy a commercial Humana or Blue Shield formulary. If you still hold a rare Humana commercial remnant, treat that as a different contract and call the number on the card.
42 CFR Part 422 is the MA program rule set. Network adequacy for mental health sits in related sections such as 42 CFR 422.116. CMS also described Contract Year 2026 MA policy changes, including behavioral health access work, in its CY 2026 fact sheet.
Practical translation: you look at in-network psychiatry and therapy, telehealth flags in the EOC, and whether the drug is on the HPS Part D formulary. You do not assume SB 855 “mental health must equal medical” language overrides CMS.
Common first-line antidepressants (sertraline, escitalopram, fluoxetine, duloxetine, bupropion, mirtazapine, and similar) are typically unscheduled. Coverage still depends on tier, quantity limits, and PA. Humana provider materials reference clinical guidelines such as the APA depression guideline on the Humana clinical practice guidelines page. Guidelines are not a promise that every brand-name product is on formulary.
Spravato (esketamine) is Schedule III and is usually a medical-benefit procedure with REMS, not a simple retail fill. Tricyclic antidepressants and MAOIs are older options some plans still list with restrictions. Adjunctive benzodiazepines are Schedule IV. Medicare GLP-1 Bridge ($50/month Wegovy/Zepbound/Foundayo via CMS as of July 1, 2026) is a weight-loss program, not a depression benefit. Do not cite it as covering antidepressants.
IP0477 is Cigna’s stimulant PA policy. It does not apply to Humana depression meds.
Medicare outlines covered telehealth categories, including depression screenings, on Medicare.gov telehealth. Your Humana plan may add extra telehealth. Insurance Code § 10123.85 is California’s commercial telehealth payment statute. It is not the MA rulebook. HHS/DEA telemedicine prescribing flexibilities for controlled substances currently extend through December 31, 2026. Unscheduled antidepressants are not DEA Schedule II issues, but any controlled adjunct still is.
Klarity lists 2,000+ licensed providers. A Klarity visit is not automatically in-network for Humana. Ask the provider and Humana whether the NPI will bill your MA plan.

MA coverage disputes go through the plan, then an independent review entity. Maximus IRE: 1-855-887-6668. California Department of Insurance (CDI) 1-800-927-4357 and DMHC help many commercial and Knox-Keene members. They generally do not replace CMS for MA. Medi-Cal members use DHCS channels.
Coverage varies by plan, county, network, and formulary year. Nothing here is a determination that Humana will pay for a specific visit or drug. Verify benefits before you book. Klarity Health does not provide insurance and is not affiliated with Humana, CMS, CDI, or DHCS. If you have thoughts of suicide, call or text 988.
