Cigna commercial plans in Florida may cover depression evaluation, follow-up, psychotherapy, and some antidepressant medications when the visit is medically necessary, in network, and allowed on your medical policy and Express Scripts list. Coverage is not automatic. Federal MHPAEA and Fla. Stat. § 627.668 set a floor for many fully insured policies. Cigna PA Policy IP0477 (effective May 15, 2026 on many Cigna commercial lists) typically requires prior authorization for stimulants. It does not rewrite SSRI or SNRI rules. Always verify your own benefits before you book.

Often, some of it, with caveats. Evaluation visits, medication management, and many therapy visits may process as medical or behavioral health benefits on many Cigna commercial plans when the visit is medically necessary and in network. Medication is a separate pharmacy question. Copays, deductibles, and whether Klarity is in network still sit in your Summary of Benefits and Coverage, medical policy, and Express Scripts drug list.
Self-funded ERISA employer plans follow federal rules and the plan document more than Fla. Stat. § 627.668. Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and dual-eligible products follow CMS and Florida Medicaid rules, not § 627.668 in the same way. Always treat this page as education, not a coverage determination.
Do not mix Cigna with Florida Blue (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida) or with Anthem. Related Florida guides: Cigna Florida ADHD, Cigna Florida anxiety, Anthem Florida depression, and Anthem Florida ADHD.
Check if your plan may cover a depression visit.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, an estimated 21.0 million U.S. adults had at least one major depressive episode in 2021, or 8.3% of adults. About 14.5 million adults (5.7%) had a major depressive episode with severe impairment. Among adults with a major depressive episode, 61.0% received treatment in the past year.
Those figures describe national epidemiology. They do not decide whether your Cigna Florida plan pays for a video visit or a brand-name antidepressant.
Two layers matter in 2026:
Parity does not mean every antidepressant is preferred or that prior authorization is illegal. It means the plan generally cannot make depression care harder to use than comparable medical care in the same classification. If Cigna denies a brand SSRI after a generic alternative exists, that is often a formulary issue, not an automatic parity violation. If the denial is a blanket mental-health visit cap that medical visits do not face, parity may apply. Keep those buckets separate when you appeal.

Florida Statutes § 456.47 governs how clinicians may practice telehealth in Florida. It does not rewrite Cigna’s medical policy or Express Scripts PA. Many fully insured plans still reimburse video visits that would be covered in person when clinically appropriate. Employer self-funded plans may still pay for telehealth, but Florida insurance statutes may not bind them.
Klarity providers licensed in Florida can evaluate depression by video when clinically appropriate. Same-day appointments are often available. Coverage still depends on network status and cost share.
Federal controlled-substance telemedicine flexibilities currently run through December 31, 2026. Most first-line antidepressants (sertraline, fluoxetine, escitalopram, duloxetine, bupropion, mirtazapine, and similar agents) are typically not controlled substances. Benzodiazepines used when anxiety overlaps with depression are Schedule IV. Esketamine (Spravato) is Schedule III and usually follows REMS and in-clinic administration rules, which is a different channel from a standard telehealth refill of an oral SSRI.
IP0477 remains a stimulant PA policy. Do not cite it as the reason an SSRI needs prior authorization.
Cigna commercial pharmacy benefits in Florida typically run through Express Scripts. Exact tiers change by plan year. In many lists:
Zepbound and other GLP-1 obesity drugs are a separate Express Scripts obesity conversation. Cigna/ESI did not copy the Caremark July 2025 Zepbound removal. That fact still does not decide whether your plan pays for sertraline.
Humana and some Cigna Medicare Advantage products follow CMS 42 CFR Part 422, not Fla. Stat. § 627.668. Part D formularies and CMS coverage determinations control drugs. The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge ($50/month Wegovy/Zepbound/Foundayo via CMS, generally July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027) is an obesity program. It does not treat major depression.
Florida Medicaid and AHCA managed-care products follow state Medicaid rules. This page does not describe those formularies. Dual-eligible members should confirm which payer is primary before they assume a commercial Cigna guide applies.
Medicare Advantage appeals often go through the plan, then CMS redetermination, then independent review. Maximus IRE is often 1-855-887-6668.

Many commercial plans may cover video visits that would be covered in person when the clinician is licensed in Florida and the visit is medically necessary. Fla. Stat. § 456.47 governs practice. It does not force payment. Confirm telehealth cost share on myCigna.
No. IP0477 typically applies to stimulants on many Cigna commercial lists as of May 15, 2026. SSRIs and SNRIs follow the Express Scripts list, not that stimulant policy.
No. § 627.668 is a make-available mental health coverage rule for many fully insured policies. MHPAEA addresses parity of limits, not a specific brand on a preferred tier.
AHCA and Medicaid managed-care rules apply. This commercial Cigna guide does not describe Medicaid formularies.

Cigna in Florida may cover depression evaluation, therapy, and many antidepressants in 2026 when medical necessity, network, and Express Scripts rules line up. Parity and § 627.668 set a floor for many fully insured products. They do not guarantee a specific drug or a $0 copay. Verify benefits before you book.
