Cigna commercial plans in Florida may cover anxiety evaluation, therapy referrals, follow-up, and some anti-anxiety medications when the visit is medically necessary, in network, and allowed on your medical policy and Express Scripts list. Coverage is not automatic. Federal MHPAEA and Fla. Stat. § 627.668 set a floor for many fully insured policies. Always verify your own benefits before you book.

Often, some of it, with caveats. Evaluation visits and medication management may process as medical benefits on many Cigna commercial plans when the visit is medically necessary and in network. Medication is a separate pharmacy question. Copays, deductibles, and whether Klarity is in network still sit in your Summary of Benefits and Coverage, medical policy, and Express Scripts drug list.
Self-funded ERISA employer plans follow federal rules and the plan document more than Fla. Stat. § 627.668. Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and dual-eligible products follow CMS and Florida Medicaid rules, not § 627.668 in the same way. Always treat this page as education, not a coverage determination.
Do not mix Cigna with Florida Blue (Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida) or with Anthem. Related Florida guides: Cigna Florida ADHD, Anthem Florida anxiety, and Anthem Florida ADHD.
Check if your plan may cover an anxiety visit.
Two layers matter in 2026:
Parity does not mean every brand anxiolytic is preferred or that prior authorization is illegal. It means the plan generally cannot make anxiety care harder to use than comparable medical care in the same classification. If Cigna denies a brand SSRI after a generic alternative exists, that is often a formulary issue, not an automatic parity violation. If the denial is a blanket mental-health visit cap that medical visits do not face, parity may apply. Keep those buckets separate when you appeal.

Florida Statutes § 456.47 governs how clinicians may practice telehealth in Florida. It does not rewrite Cigna’s medical policy or Express Scripts PA. Many fully insured plans still reimburse video visits that would be covered in person when clinically appropriate. Employer self-funded plans may still pay for telehealth, but Florida insurance statutes may not bind them.
Klarity providers licensed in Florida can evaluate anxiety by video when clinically appropriate. Same-day appointments are often available. Coverage still depends on network status and cost share.
Federal controlled-substance telemedicine flexibilities currently run through December 31, 2026. Benzodiazepines (alprazolam, clonazepam, lorazepam, diazepam) are Schedule IV. Buspirone, hydroxyzine, and most SSRIs/SNRIs are typically unscheduled. A clinician still needs a valid Florida license and a medically appropriate plan. Cigna can still apply quantity limits or refuse to pay a drug that is not on the Express Scripts list.
IP0477 is Cigna’s stimulant PA policy. Do not treat it as the anxiety-drug PA. Stimulant coverage belongs on the Cigna Florida ADHD guide.
NIMH estimates that 19.1% of U.S. adults had any anxiety disorder in the past year. Generalized anxiety disorder is less common: NIMH estimates 2.7% of U.S. adults had GAD in the past year. Prevalence does not force Cigna to pay a specific drug or visit. It does explain why anxiety sits in the mental health classification that MHPAEA and § 627.668 address.
Split the claim:
A paid evaluation does not guarantee a paid prescription. A paid generic SSRI does not guarantee unlimited therapy visits. Check both sides on myCigna.
Many Cigna commercial lists prefer generic SSRIs/SNRIs. Brand-only products and some combination products often sit higher. Benzodiazepines often carry quantity limits because of dependence risk, not because MHPAEA forbids them. Coverage reviews for some neuroscience drugs, including anxiety products, appear on Express Scripts member FAQs: express-scripts.com/frequently-asked-questions.
Cigna’s published prescription lists also flag prior authorization on selected products. Your exact list is the one attached to your group or Marketplace ID, not a PDF from another state. Cigna/ESI typically kept Zepbound on many commercial lists while Caremark removed it in 2025; that obesity distinction does not decide whether your alprazolam or sertraline claim pays.
If your card is Cigna Medicare Advantage, CMS 42 CFR Part 422 and the plan’s Part D or medical benefit rules apply. Florida § 627.668 does not rewrite that contract. Appeals often go plan redetermination, then Maximus IRE at 1-855-887-6668, then ALJ.
The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge ($50/month Wegovy/Zepbound/Foundayo via CMS, July 1, 2026 window) is an obesity program. It is not an anxiety benefit.
AHCA/Florida Medicaid and dual-eligible products follow Medicaid rules and the managed-care formulary. This commercial page does not describe those benefits. Verify with the plan listed on the Medicaid card.
Verify whether you may qualify for an online anxiety visit.
It may, when the drug is on your Express Scripts list and any PA or step therapy is complete. Generic SSRIs are often easier than brand products or high-dose benzodiazepines. Coverage varies by plan.
No. § 627.668 is a make-available mental health coverage rule for many fully insured policies. It does not place every benzodiazepine on a preferred tier.
No. IP0477 is Cigna’s stimulant PA (ADHD). Anxiety drugs follow the Express Scripts list and any product-specific PA, not IP0477.
Clinicians practicing telehealth in Florida follow § 456.47. Whether Cigna pays the claim still depends on your plan, network, and medical necessity.
Use CMS appeal paths, not the Florida fully insured complaint line as your first stop. GLP-1 Bridge does not pay anxiety drugs.

Cigna in Florida may cover anxiety evaluation and some medications in 2026 when medical necessity, network, MHPAEA, and Express Scripts rules line up. § 627.668 does not guarantee a specific drug. IP0477 is a stimulant policy. Verify on myCigna before you book. Klarity’s 2,000+ licensed providers can evaluate anxiety online when clinically appropriate.
